Kathy Biehl

Kathy Biehl, Author of "Eat, Drink & Be Wary: Cautionary Tales "

Kathy Biehl has been exploring and explaining the role of the sky down here on earth since her teens. A prolific forecaster, advisor and teacher, she delivers “astrology you can use,” blending grounded, practical explanations and tips with humor, optimism, and a love of patterns, symbolism, and pop culture references. She is known for spot-on predictions (“ridiculously accurate”) and witty, sassy style (“somewhere between a master storyteller and late-night at the improv”). Her work draws on her uncommonly diverse life experience as an attorney, small business owner, performing artist, and writer. That variety gives her a personal understanding of most of the situations, challenges and issues clients face, an awareness that shapes both her private counseling and public forecasting.

Her insights have appeared in or on The New York Times, FOX Business News, Astrology Hub, The Mountain Astrologer, Bustle, The Daily Meal, Dogster, Elite Daily, InStyle, Readers Digest, and Sustain Natural. A longtime contributor to OMTimes, she is the host of Celestial Compass on OMTimes Radio, as well as a longtime member of Best American Psychics and winner of their Awesome Accolades Award for 2018. She wrote the astrology chapter for Your Guide to Self-Discovery: Twenty Ways to Find the True You (Llewellyn 2023).

Her Story

ED&BW front cover small (2).jpg

Kathy Biehl lives on the bridge between intuition and the rational mind. From that vantage point, she has approached multiple careers with a sense of wonder, keen research abilities, and a desire to explore and explain human existence. An early passion for astrology led to the anomaly of a high school newspaper sun sign column in the Bible belt. She began formal study at the Houston Institute of Astrology after abandoning conventional law firm employment and opening a solo practice, augmented by freelance writing.  While representing artists, small business owners, and gay couples as law clients, she has studied with leading astrologers across the U.S., spoken at astrological and metaphysical centers in Texas, NYC, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, published forecasts on multiple sites and platforms, and built an international clientele. Her writing has ranged from off-beat travel, popular culture, and sly social commentary to translating the technicalities of law, Internet research, and astrology for mainstream audiences to the myriad attractions of food. In addition, she has made sense (and fun) of the business and appeal of eating habits, fads, and trends and reported on restaurants, food, wine, and related travel. Her latest book, Eat, Drink & Be Wary: Cautionary Tales, grew out of 30 years of reviewing restaurants in Houston and New York and covering the specialty food industry nationally. Her writing has won awards from the Association of Food Journalists and the Houston Press Club.

Eat, Drink & Be Wary: Cautionary Tales (9th House 2021)

by Kathy Biehl

The joys, quirks, and questionable behavior that food and drink inspire fill this kaleidoscopic collection of award-winning commentary and diaristic reports. From Houston’s burgeoning culinary landscape to late-night revelry in Britain and Barcelona to a Hell’s Kitchen TV studio, the tales capture a way of life we take for granted no longer, when people freely gathered at tables and counters, shared food, raised glasses, and partook of drama and laughter and magic. Beneath the wit and intricate, often outrageous detail is an intelligent, deeply personal understanding of the larger role that food and drink play beyond nutrition.
